Welcome to the PCN website. The PCN exists to serve, inform, and connect our DAL pilot community, both active and retired.
In 2005 we started Senior Slug Network. A website for all those pilots that found themselves in a particular job quandary........"should I stay or should I go?" The given name of "slug" came to us from our junior pilot community. If that was the name of choice, I figured, we will turn it into a badge of honor and all became slugs with a smile. The site was designed for this group in turmoil with their unique issues that required an outlet. Well, we have realized over time that the entire industry has a large group of RETIRED PILOTS that carry their own set of unique issues and areas of concern. With that in mind, for all those happy Retired Slugs out there, I later transitioned to create RSP (Retired Slug Portal). Now, after a few years of operation, the RSP gave way and merged with Davild L Roberts group started in 1996. With a sincere level of gratitude for all the work that David has done, the new PCN (Pilot Communication Net) was founded on August 3, 2009.
Hear this LOUD AND CLEAR. There is no hidden agenda for PCN site or newsletter. I aim to purely and simply serve our airline’s large contingent of pilots including their families. First, I did love my job. Why I still serve, is not because of the love for flight (which I do possess), rather it is because on the job I worked with some of the finest human beings I have ever known. Yeah, there was/is an occasional square peg among us. But the pilot group, in general, is loyal, filled with honor, and possesses great capability.
The PCN will, however, be a private site requiring membership. The primary focus of our net will involve pilots and their family members, but all Delta affiliated personnel are welcome. We wish to make a site free of profanity or lewd conversation. Our email letter will be the main medium for pilot interaction. And we plan to have a number of useful links and tools that our community can use.
I hope that I live up to the high standard that was set by David Roberts. And I further hope you find my efforts through the PCN enjoyable and useful. Any suggestions that you may have for added tools or links are
always encouraged.
Welcome to PCN! Come on in and stay awhile.
2014
My name is Mark Sztanyo (pronounced Stan'yo) and I will soon retire from a career of over 47 years in the air as a pilot, 26 of which were for one of our country's premier airlines, Delta. I was hired in Nov of 1978 while at the nation’s largest cancelled check carrier serving as its chief pilot, to Delta Air Lines. Delta turned into the best job I've ever had. On Jan 1st, 2006, I retired from Delta, while flying the B767 and serving as a LCP out of CVG. Its has been a great ride and I've been fortunate enough to enjoy many highlights along the way. Later,I took a job flying the troops with Omni Air Intl and have flown the world with many interesting adventures. I will retire from Omni on Oct of 2017. I've had no higher highlight than to have the privilege of instructing all 3 of our sons to achieve the level of private pilot. My oldest son, Mike, continued as a pilot and is currently a Delta pilot based at DTW. My wife, Barbara, and I reside in Florence, KY and wish to stay engaged by providing these communication services for many of our fellow retired aviators.
